The Japanese yunomi teacup
The yunomi is a handleless Japanese teacup for everyday use, unlike the tea bowl (chawan), which is usually reserved for the tea ceremony (Chanoyu).
Traditionally made of stoneware, the yunomi is now also available in porcelain. It is embellished with traditional or modern motifs. Its size is taller than it is wide, it can be fitted with a cut-out foot, and given its thickness it can be grasped even when hot.
Japanese tradition dictates that newlyweds are given a pair of yunomis (meoto yunomi) with similar motifs, but slightly different shapes (smaller for the bride).
Porcelain & ceramic teacups
Heirs to a long tradition, porcelain teacups today come in a thousand and one variations. Timelessly chic whiteness or fanciful patterns, let your desires guide you. A sure bet for tasting and enhancing your teas and infusions!
Ceramic mugs are reinvented year after year. They are particularly attractive with their varied patterns and ability to retain heat. They combine beauty and functionality, and are particularly durable.
Matcha bowls, Chawan
The matcha bowl, chawan in Japanese, literally "tea bowl", is indispensable for preparing matcha, the Japanese green tea powder. This bowl, of which there are many types, is shaped to allow easy use of the matcha whisk (chasen).
The relatively thick ceramic of the traditional bowl naturally regulates the temperature of the water as it is poured into it, and thus avoids burning the fine tea particles.
A hand-crafted matcha bowl is a noble object to which one becomes attached, and which increases in value the longer it is used in the pure wabi-sabi tradition.
Built-in infusers & transparent tea cups
For those who like practical, well-thought-out objects, tea cups with infusers are an excellent choice. They make it easy to brew tea directly in the cup. Stainless steel and glass infusers can be reused over and over again.
Transparent tea cups are very aesthetic and allow you to see the infusion process. They are also heat-resistant, making them an increasingly popular choice for tea lovers.
