AUDACE Our history

In 1994, Arlette Rohmer founded Les Jardins de Gaïa with the aim of helping people discover quality teas and other plants. A botanical enthusiast and fervent campaigner for the preservation of the environment and its biodiversity, she brought in her wake a team of professionals that grew from strength to strength.

In the 90s, organic and fair trade teas were non-existent on the French market. Her objective was to go out into the field and meet producers willing to follow her in this ambitious project. From the outset, Les Jardins de Gaïa have led the way and continue to defend their values: a passion for tea grown with respect for the land and the people who work it.

A story on the tea trail..

The origins of Les Jardins de Gaïa

An idea, a project, born and matured in the mind of Arlette Rohmer for many years. A keen traveller and plant enthusiast, she wanted to give more to the people she met around the world, and reveal the flavours and riches of the countries she explored, through tea, the most widely drunk beverage in the world after water.

In 1994, she set up Les Jardins de Gaïa, with the aim of helping people discover superior quality teas and other incredible plants from Asia, Africa and South America, but only organically grown.

Initially, she bagged these unusual teas in her kitchen, then introduced them at organic fairs and markets. The quality and finesse of her products were enough to ensure their success. More and more encounters were made, and numerous opportunities arose.

From that day on, Les Jardins de Gaïa's development has been relentless. Arlette Rohmer's passion for tea and her thirst to offer customers and partners quality products that respect nature and mankind have enabled her to maintain and build direct relationships with producers. Small-scale producers and small-scale projects are always given priority in order to promote agriculture on a human scale, enabling us to multiply our choices and improve the quality of our teas as each harvest progresses, while at the same time promoting these "small producers" on the international stage.

Building strong partnerships

From the outset, we have focused on creating close, lasting partnerships with producers in many countries.

By raising their awareness of organic and even biodynamic agriculture, and by trusting their know-how and knowledge of the terroir, we have developed hand-in-hand, harvest after harvest, top-quality crus whose aromatic complexity seduces the most discerning palates.

From the mountains of Darjeeling, where our story really began, we have retained a particular passion for the harvesting of exceptional teas, and a recognized expertise that has led to many new encounters.

Today, at Les Jardins de Gaïa, we are widely recognized for our know-how, our commitment to organic farming and our passion for tea. We master the import, processing, flavouring, packaging and distribution of our teas. From the garden to your cup, we take care of our teas, for your greatest pleasure.
