The matcha bowl, chawan in Japanese, literally "tea bowl", is indispensable for preparing matcha, the Japanese green tea powder. The shape of this bowl, of which there are many types, makes it easy to use the matcha whisk (chasen).
The relatively thick ceramic of the traditional bowl naturally regulates the temperature of the water as it is poured into it, thus avoiding burning the fine tea particles.
A handcrafted matcha bowl is a noble object to which one becomes attached, and which takes on a patina as it is used in the pure wabi-sabi tradition.
Matcha bowl in brown ceramic with gold elements, handmade in Japan. Diameter 122 mm. Height 85 mm. Capacity: +/- 450 ml.
The matcha whisk rest is called kusenaoshi in Japanese. This accessory serves as a display stand for the matcha whisk (chasen), enabling it to retain its shape.
The whisk rest is made of brown porcelain and is 8.5 cm high.
Please note that this whisk rest is not suitable for the dark-brown chasen sold on our site.
Product use:
For preparing matcha, but also as a tea bowl.
After use, rinse the matcha whisk (chasen) with clear water, and place it on the whisk rest (kusenaoshi) until next use to prevent the whisk from warping.
Care instructions:
Rinse with clean water and wipe well with a soft cloth to give a lustrous sheen.
