Terra Madre: organic, premium and fair trade spices
France's culinary culture offers a perfect setting for gustatory journeys. Since their beginnings, Les Jardins de Gaïa have been exploring the world in search of new flavours of teas, plants and spices. With their expertise in in-house creations and the use of spices in their blends, the acquisition of the Terra Madre brand in 2011 was an obvious move.
Taking advantage of shared partners, particularly in India and Sri Lanka, where the cultivation of spices (pepper, cardamom, cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon, ginger...) is coupled with tea for soil biodiversity, Terra Madre is driven by the desire to offer organic, premium spices from small-scale producers.
The range includes over 140 single spices and many new creations, some of which are biodynamic and Demeter-certified.
Shared values between Les Jardins de Gaïa and Terra Madre
We share the same commitment to the Earth and the people who work it. The two brands are therefore linked by a common direction and strong values. Favouring small producers and fair trade, encouraging organic and biodynamic farming, supporting local initiatives to improve working conditions and product quality, defending local employment and a French production are their common foundation.
Like Les Jardins de Gaïa products, all Terra Madre blends and creations are conceived, produced and packaged on our premises in Alsace, and also by employees of an ESAT (centres providing care through employment): 100% made in France! And just like Les Jardins de Gaïa, Terra Madre favours the work of small-scale producers and fair trade, so it's only natural that some of our spices are certified biodynamic (Demeter), and others are certified fair trade (WFTO).
Choice of terroirs and craftsmanship: the secrets of our incomparable quality spices
Our spices are processed in small batches to preserve their freshness and guarantee their traceability.
Thanks to the quality of their raw materials, Terra Madre spices offer an exceptional intensity of flavour: a small quantity is enough to awaken any dish. Terra Madre's philosophy is to be present throughout the production and creation process.
Examples of origins:
