Gyokuro Karigane
Tea preparation tips
A nugget to discover
Made from gyokuro stems and leaves, this Japanese tea is the crème de la crème of kukicha teas. Its velvety liquor delivers yellow-fruit flavors accompanied by vegetal and marine notes that develop in the mouth in a particularly refined way.
Organic farming
We have always offered organically grown teas and herbal teas, and used natural, organic flavours. We go even further, demanding that our suppliers use certified organic flavor carriers and solvents. Certified since 1994.
Plain tea
White, green, black and dark teas from China, India, Japan and elsewhere are all varieties from the same plant: the tea plant. Once plucked, the leaf is processed in different ways, undergoing numerous transformations. Depending on the terroir, the fineness of the leaf and the way it is processed, the result is an unlimited palette of tastes and vintages.
Please note
This Gyokuro Karigane differs from a classic Gyokuro by the presence of twigs and stems associated with the leaves, making it similar to a kukicha. The term Karigane (雁金 - wild goose) is used to distinguish this tea from classic kukichas, which are in essence the simple, inexpensive everyday teas of Japan. The name is a nod to a folk tale about a goose crossing the Sea of Japan on a tea stalk. This "luxury kukicha" is made in exactly the same way as a gyokuro, with a 20-day shading period before plucking. The stems and twigs that accompany the leaves are therefore also marked by this particular manufacturing process. The result is superb!
Tea and food pairings
This Japanese green tea, with its particularly velvety liquor and complementary vegetal and marine flavors, will add refinement to dishes containing fish or shellfish with iodized notes.
