Terroir
The Putharjhora tea garden is nestled in the heart of India's Dooars region. The landscape is shaped by alluvial plains south of the outer Himalayan foothills and north of the Brahmaputra river basin. Derived from the English Doors, Dooars is a historic bridge between India and Bhutan. The climate is subtropical, with high humidity and heavy rainfall from June to October. Rivers such as the Teesta and its tributaries play a crucial role in irrigation. The Dooars is home to numerous sanctuaries and national parks, including Gorumara Park, famous for its population of Indian rhinos. Other endemic species include the red-necked hornbill and the Indian elephant.
Background and challenges
In the past, elephants used forest corridors to migrate from the state of Assam to the Nepalese border. Now, due to deforestation, they often wander into tea gardens, damaging infrastructure and panicking local residents. To restore a balance between man and nature, the garden has introduced the "Elephant Friendly" label.
Community projects
Thanks to the fair trade premium, solar panels have been installed, enabling night-time street lighting. Thanks to the "Elephant Friendly" label. A walkway for elephants has also been opened, protecting the community as they pass through the garden.
Organic farming
We have always offered organically grown teas and herbal teas, and used natural, organic flavours. We go even further, demanding that our suppliers use certified organic flavor carriers and solvents. Certified since 1994.

Original tea
White, green, black and dark teas from China, India, Japan and elsewhere are all varieties from the same plant: the tea plant. Once plucked, the leaf is processed in different ways, undergoing numerous transformations. Depending on the terroir, the fineness of the leaf and the way it is processed, the result is an unlimited palette of tastes and vintages.
Tea and food pairings
This great classic is the perfect accompaniment to "French breakfasts": viennoiseries, toast with jam or crêpes, as well as savoury breakfasts: scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages..
