A Sri Lankan black tea ideal for breakfast
Tea from Sri Lanka
Bearing the signature of Ceylon's high mountain teas, this broken-leaf tea from the UVA province offers an intense infusion with a beautiful, bright copper hue. Tasty and full-bodied, it is ideal for breakfast, and can be sweetened with a splash of milk or cream.

Terroir
The SOFA - Small Organic Farmer Association - cooperative is one of Les Jardins de Gaïa's long-standing partners. It produces tea and a wide range of spices in the south of Sri Lanka, in the Kandy and Matale districts. The climate is predominantly tropical, but can be subtropical or mountainous at higher altitudes. There are also variations in soil types. In low-lying areas, the soils are alluvial, while in the highlands, the soil is often red and laterite. The Mahaweli River, the island's longest, supplies the districts with irrigation water. Rainfall is regular and increases during the monsoon season. Like the soil and climate, biodiversity here is extremely varied, with endemic animals such as the Ceylon Coryllis and the Langur gris living in the district's tropical forests.
Community projects
The cooperative is Fairtrade certified, enabling the deployment of various agricultural development projects such as the funding of a self-employment assistance program. The latter grants interest-free loans specifically to women, to help them move towards better economic opportunities.
Organic farming
We have always offered organically grown teas and herbal teas, and used natural, organic flavours. We go even further, demanding that our suppliers use certified organic flavor carriers and solvents. Certified since 1994.

A WFTO (World Fair Trade Organization) certified member, Les Jardins de Gaïa has been committed to fair trade since its creation: from the tea leaf to the cup, all our practices meet fair trade requirements. To find out more: www.wfto.com.
Original tea
White, green, black and dark teas from China, India, Japan and elsewhere are all varieties from the same plant: the tea plant. Once plucked, the leaf is processed in different ways, undergoing numerous transformations. Depending on the terroir, the fineness of the leaf and the way it is processed, the result is an unlimited palette of tastes and vintages.
Tea and food pairings
This great classic is the perfect accompaniment to "French breakfasts": viennoiseries, toast with jam or crêpes, as well as savoury breakfasts: scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages..
For a gourmet break, it will also enhance a dark chocolate with character, plain or with candied oranges and/or nuts.
