A black tea from a beautiful collaboration that we are proud to share with you
Tea from India
Literally "Gaïa's garden" in Nepalese, this Gaïa Bari black tea is the culmination of our collaboration with the small Potong tea garden. It offers a brew with mouth-watering flavours of toast and fruit paste, accompanied by a discreet note of mace blossom.

Terroir
The Potong tea garden is located in the foothills of the Himalayas, in the Darjeeling district. The region's climate is subtropical, and the rainy season extends from April to September, with peak rainfall in June. The soil is loamy and water resources include numerous streams and springs from the surrounding hills and forests.
Background and challenges
However, previous plundering of natural resources has led to serious water supply problems, and despite new government protection measures, the area is recovering.
Community projects
The Potong tea garden, created over a hundred years ago by the British, has come a long way. Left derelict in the 1970s, the surrounding community came together to form the Potong Tea cooperative and revive tea production. Today, the cooperative works in partnership with the Singell tea factory and has an irrigation system funded by Gaia Gardens to combat water shortages caused by climate change.
Organic farming
We have always offered organically grown teas and herbal teas, and used natural, organic flavours. We go even further, demanding that our suppliers use certified organic flavor carriers and solvents. Certified since 1994.
Fair trade
A WFTO (World Fair Trade Organization) certified member, Les Jardins de Gaïa has been committed to fair trade since its creation: from the tea leaf to the cup, all our practices meet fair trade requirements. To find out more: www.wfto.com.
Darjeeling PGI
Guaranteeing the origin of our teas is one of our top priorities. We're delighted to finally be able to display the official Darjeeling logo on our packaging, a guarantee of the geographical origin of this tea that we've cherished since our origins. Since 2011, the European Union has recognized the only existing PGI for tea. A guarantee of protection for Indian producers and consumers alike.

Original tea
White, green, black and dark teas from China, India, Japan and elsewhere are all varieties from the same plant: the tea plant. Once plucked, the leaf is processed in different ways, undergoing numerous transformations. Depending on the terroir, the fineness of the leaf and the way it is processed, the result is an unlimited palette of tastes and vintages.
Tea and food pairings
Spring Darjeelings, fresh and delicate, go particularly well with sweet, subtle vanilla-scented desserts. They can also be paired with almond- or pistachio-based cakes. In a savory dish, they go very well with scallops and early green vegetables.
