The yunomi is a handleless Japanese tea cup for everyday use, unlike the tea bowl (chawan), which is normally reserved for the tea ceremony (Chanoyu).
Traditionally made of stoneware, the yunomi is now also available in porcelain. It is decorated with traditional or modern motifs. Its size is taller than it is wide, it can be fitted with a cut-out foot, and given its thickness it can be grasped even when hot.
A Japanese tradition is to give a pair of yunomis to newlyweds (meoto yunomi) with similar design, but slightly different shapes (smaller for the bride).
Flared stoneware teacups with flower design in various colors, Yunomi Hana Cup model, from Japan. Sold in packs of 5 (diameter 75 mm, height 65 mm, capacity 140 ml).
