All the magic of Alsace in our Christmas teas
The Christmas season is dear to the hearts of Alsatians! Its "magic" has influenced many of our recipes, which reflect both our values and our expertise.
The use of spices in cooking and baking is a well-established tradition in our region. Just stroll through one of the many Alsatian Christmas markets to awaken your inner foodie, drawn in by the spicy aroma of mulled wine or the sweet scent of freshly baked bredele (Alsatian petits fours).
Dried fruit, small pieces of apple, cinnamon, anise, cloves... everything makes you want to try it to highlight the culinary richness that characterizes our region, at the heart of our recipes.
But what is the secret behind the creation of our Christmas teas and other spice blends?
Traditions surrounding Christmas trees and Christmas markets: an endless source of inspiration
Christmas celebrations have been part of our local heritage for centuries and remain a real source of inspiration for our team when developing recipes.
The first Christkindelsmärik (Baby Jesus market) was held in Strasbourg in 1570. The city thus became the historic birthplace of Christmas markets in France.
And it was in Sélestat, in 1521, a few kilometers from our company's headquarters, that the Christmas tree was first mentioned in a book now preserved in the city's famous Humanist Library..
At the time, the fir tree was considered a tree of paradise, on which small red apples were hung to symbolize Adam and Eve's fall from paradise.
Our " Christmas Apple " recipe is a nod to this ancient Alsatian tradition.
Combining flavour and naturalness is an art form!
For each Christmas recipe, as with all our creations, we strive to stay as close as possible to nature and original flavors.
Our teas, rooibos, and herbal teas are organically grown and flavored with natural organic aromas, then processed at our facilities in Alsace. Fruits, flowers, spices, essential oils: we are particularly demanding when it comes to the selection and quality of our ingredients, which are the key to a successful Christmas recipe. Our aim is always to complement the taste of a tea or rooibos without ever masking it, thus respecting the tremendous work of our producer partners.
To be a source of both gustatory and visual pleasure, our compositions are embellished with flower petals, small pieces of dried fruit, and many other little details that give our Christmas recipes their distinctive character.
And when it comes to spices, our ready-to-use blends are always designed to make it easy for you to create delicious gingerbread, mulled wine, and other pastries.
Cinnamon stars, aniseed cookies... spicy and tasty specialties
The Christmas season in Alsace is always synonymous with culinary delights.
Tradition dictates that the ingredients used to make the various Christmas cakes be prepared in advance: bredele (shortbread cookies), beerawecka (dried fruit and spice bread), and of course gingerbread...
Apples from the orchard dried after harvest, walnuts, hazelnuts, and almonds patiently shelled and crushed during autumn evenings, a selection of candied fruits and numerous spices to be used (cinnamon, ginger, coriander, anise, cardamom, cloves...): everything must be ready to begin baking during Advent. As the candles on the Advent wreath are lit and the days leading up to Christmas are counted down, the excitement is palpable in homes, especially among children. The Christmas celebrations are just around the corner and, as the cold of winter sets in, we feed on the magic of this bright, warm, and delicious time of year..
All kinds of cakes with different shapes and flavors are made, including the famous cinnamon stars and aniseed cookies, which we enjoy with a glass of mulled wine or one of our Christmas tea or herbal tea recipes.
Ideally, the cookies should be made a few days before the big day so that they have time to dry in their specially designed, beautifully decorated boxes. This will make them even better!
But it's not uncommon for the cookies to never really have time to dry...
