Teas from Vietnam

Teas from Vietnam

In the 20s and 30s, Vietnam was the source of original and renowned teas. Unable to compete with Chinese green teas, producers specialized in renowned black teas, particularly from the high plateaus. Indochina also specialized in scented teas, such as the famous lotus tea whose legendary aroma is still reported. But successive wars destroyed most of the gardens and production came to a virtual standstill. Today, there's a real determination to revive a glorious past and relaunch the production of quality teas.

Between North and South

Alongside the traditional green, white and black teas produced by minorities in the north-west from ancient tea bushes, not far from Hô-Chi-Minh in the south-west, Vietnam has for some years been producing wu long teas inspired by Taiwanese know-how, which are attracting growing interest. The variety of cultivar used is the one developed for Taiwan's finest Tie Guan Yin. Low oxidation gives these wu long delicious fruity and floral aromas, with lovely exotic notes that add to their charm.
